Thelma LaBarre, 88, died Nov. 4, at the home of her daughter, Janet LaBarre.
Thelma LaBarre, 88, died Nov. 4, at the home of her daughter, Janet LaBarre. She died peacefully with the help of Hospice care in the presence of her two daughters and son-in-law.
She was born Oct. 3, 1924 in Duluth to Beda and Gunnar Oman.
She married Louis LaBarre, who predeceased her, as did her sister Katherine and parents.
She is survived by her daughters Janet LaBarre (Duane), Lynn Swelbar; granddaughter Stacy Phillips (Ian); niece Marie Olson (Dean) and nephew Keith Lindstam (Winnie).
Thelma was a wonderful mother who loved children above all else. Her beauty, both inside and out, was extraordinary. She sang at the Flame, acted at the Duluth Playhouse, and modeled before becoming a full-time mother, her true calling. Everyone who knew her loved her, and even as she declined in health and cognition, her kindness and concern for others remained. Truly an elegant, gracious, and memorable lady, she will be profoundly missed.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Visitation 9:30 a.m. until the service. Pink was her favorite color, so please wear it to the service if you like. Parking is available on the east and west sides of the church, as the hospital parking is open on Saurday. Memorials to Gloria Dei Church 219 6th Ave. E, Duluth, MN 55805.
