Karl Kalvin Koepke, 87, longtime resident of Zim, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Heritage Manor in Chisholm.

Karl Kalvin Koepke, 87, longtime resident of Zim, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Heritage Manor in Chisholm.

He was born April 19, 1925, in Creighton, S.D., the son of Wilhelm and Emelia (Seiler) Koepke.

He went to school in Toivola. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Karl served in the European Theatre during World War II. He was united in marriage to Elma Keveri on Jan. 22, 1949 in Kelsey, Minn.

Karl worked as a crusher operator for Eveleth Taconite - retiring in 1988. He also was a school bus driver in St. Louis County for the Cotton Schools. He was life member of VFW Post No. 3044.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elma in 2003; two brothers Emil and Maynard; and his sister Betty.

Karl is survived by his four children Linda (Larry) Shaff of Kelsey, Shirley (Harold) Whitt of Zim, Charles (Sheila) Koepke of Zim, and Curtis (Jen) Koepke of Zim; seven grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Soyring, Misty Koepke, Lonny (Crystal) Koepke, Kristin (Aaron) Zorn, Kinsey (Jonathon) Bernard, Carter Koepke, and Kendal Koepke; five great grandchildren; and his brother Pete Koepke of Embarrass.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Virginia. Brenda Tibbetts AIM will officiate. An Honor Guard will be provided by VFW Post No. 3044. Interment will be at a later date at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Hibbing.
