Inez Lucille “Lu” Gatlin, 86, of Duluth passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1926, in Cloquet, Minn., the daughter of John and Agnes Gronquist.
Lu graduated from Esko High School in 1943. Blessed with a beautiful voice, she sang with the Nordic Choral Ensemble, and on the radio with a local orchestra. She worked at Montgomery Ward and the Tweed Museum Gift Shop, and in later years volunteered for local public television and The Depot. She loved travel and made many trips to Europe, with England being her favorite. She also loved animals, especially her granddogs and the squirrels and blue jays that she regularly fed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wayne C. Gatlin; and three children, Wendy (Brian) Isle, Wayne Jr (Tamara), Betsy (Rob) Gaida; seven grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff of Solvay Hospice House for the loving care given Lu during her final days.
SERVICES: will not be held per Lu’s wish. Memorial donations may be made to Animal Allies Humane Society of Duluth.
