Robert Daniel Scharnberg, 85, of Floodwood died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 in Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth.
He was born Dec. 22, 1926 in Rosholt, South Dakota to Edward and Tillie (Skjonsby) Scharnberg.
Robert was raised and attended school in Rosholt graduating in 1945. He attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, graduating in 1952. He then became Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Floodwood. Robert married Tillie Marie Blanken van der Veer on Sept. 28, 1955 in Floodwood.
Robert was pastor at Assemblies of God Church in Floodwood from 1952 until 1991. For the next 10 years he served as interim pastor in several area churches. He also was a Floodwood school bus driver for 31 years and Floodwood Township clerk for more than 30 years. For many years he spent two weeks each summer as Kids’ Camp Director at the Lake Geneva Bible Camp in Alexandria, Minn.
Robert enjoyed carpentry, gardening, yard work, singing, fishing and hunting. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton and Alfred; and sister, Edna Swanson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Tillie; children, Kevin (Carol) Scharnberg of Floodwood, Susan (Robert) Ross of Orlando, Fla., Julie Ann (Duane) Linski of Duluth, Ruth (Tod) Autio of Floodwood, Debra (David) Forry of Palm Bay, Fla., Jonathan (Karen) Scharnberg of Oveido, Fla.; 18 grandchildren, Danny and Alissa Autio, Cheryl Arro, Michelle Odom, Brian and Evan Ross, Benjamin, Kari, Erika, and Sara Scharnberg, Kimberly Key, Brett, Craig, and Cami Linski, Kaitlyn and Jenna Forry, Joshua and Zachary Scharnberg; and five great grandchildren, Damien and Avery Autio, Aussie, Maizie and Cam Arro.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chris Jensen Nursing Home for their excellent care of Robert and his entire family.
VISITATION: 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Funeral Service, Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 in Floodwood Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township. I remember when Pastor Scharnberg came to pastor the church in Floodwood, I was his paperboy when I was in high school. He was a great man and raised his family properly, one of his daughters was a nurse at the hospital in Duluth when I had cancer in 1992, she saw my name and visited me, that was a big uplift for me.
