VIOLET "VI" (ENLUND) VIRTA

Violet “Vi” (Enlund) Virta, 92, longtime resident of Duluth, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

Violet “Vi” (Enlund) Virta, 92, longtime resident of Duluth, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 28, 1920 in Virginia, Minn., to Karl and Anna Rusk.

Vi graduated from high school in Alborn, Minnesota. On June 14, 1941, she married Osmo Virta.

Vi passed on her love of reading to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Facebook fan and used it to keep up with her family and friends.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Osmo; a son, Steve; a granddaughter, Heather; seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Terry (Carol) Virta of Petoskey, Mich., Linda (Edward) Bushey and Randy (Darlene) Virta, all of Duluth; eight grandchildren, Cheryl (Casey Steel) Virta, Amy Bushey, Robert (Shiela) Bushey, Nicole (Dan) Munthe, Gary (Toni) Virta, Lauren Virta, Chris (Amy) Virta and Erin Virta; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Schweiger; daughter-in-law, Karen Virta; sister-in-law, Bernice Enlund; very special friend, Roberta Virta; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 12 Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Saturday, Oct. 13, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, corner of 6th Avenue East and 3rd Street. Memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200

Vi and Ozzie and their kids are vivid childhood memories of mine. Vi was so soft spoken and had such a sweet smile, that you were just drawn to her. My heartfelt sympathy to you all. Marion Johnson Woodbury (One of the Johnson Kids)

To all my cousins and their families. I'm sorry to hear of the passing of my Aunt Vi. I'm so glad I was able to spend time with her at the family reunions over the years. My prayers and thoughts are with her and all of you. Your cousin from Michigan, Phyllis
