Frank L. Ruper, 86, of Chisholm, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi in Hibbing.

Frank L. Ruper, 86, of Chisholm, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi in Hibbing.

He was born March 7, 1926 in Greaney, Minn., to Matt and Anna (Rent) Ruper.

He was a graduate of Chisholm High School, The Dunwoody Institute and had been a lifelong Chisholm resident.

Frank was united in marriage on April 19, 1952 in Chisholm to Maxine Kuzma. He worked for the Douglas Mining Co., The Chisholm Tribune Free Press as a lithographer and photographer as well as a photographer at Propotnick Studios and as a Range Center house parent in Chisholm. Frank owned and operated the Budget Market in Chisholm for many years before helping his sons for 30 years at Keyboard liquor in Chisholm.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church serving as a church usher and the Knights of Columbus Chisholm Council No. 3539, the former Chisholm Moose Lodge No. 226, and the Slovenian Home. He served for seven years on the Chisholm School Board and was active as a Boy Scout leader. He was a World War II Air Force Veteran. He served and retired from the 148 airborne fighter group of the Minnesota Air National Guard as Crew Chief. He also served as post commander for both the former Chisholm VFW Crellin-Gustafson No. 1340 and the current Chisholm American Legion Press-Lloyd Post No. 247. Frank enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Maxine; children Tom (Phyllis), Mary Ann Ruper, Paul (Suzi) all of Chisholm; four grandchildren T.J. (Anna), Frank, Ariel and Caleb; one great-grandson Tommy; brother Matt (Sue) of Bloomington; sister-in-law Fran (Rick) Whelan of Hibbing; numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren Sara Mae and Thad.

MEMORIAL MASS: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm, with Rev. Fr. Fred Method celebrating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass in the church on Saturday. Military Rites will be accorded by the Hibbing V.F.W. Post No. 8510 at the church. Inurnment will take place privately at a later time at Chisholm Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Chisholm.
