Barbara L. Painter, 63, of Cloquet passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth, surrounded by her family.

Barbara L. Painter, 63, of Cloquet passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 20, 1949, in Ashland, Wis., to Robert and Evelyn (Warren) Willoughby and graduated from Iron River High School, the last class before the high school closed.

Barb was united in marriage to Dennis S. Painter on Sept. 17, 1971, in Cloquet and she worked at Diamond Brands for 21 years, retiring as Safety Director. Barb was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, worked with the youth, Alanon and also with Alateen Children. She was also a member of the Hebert-Kennedy VFW Auxiliary and the Iron River American Legion Auxiliary. Barb loved to sew, made rag dolls and doll clothes, and repaired the neighbor kid’s clothes for hugs.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis; three children, Teresa (Mario) Miranda of Racine, WI, Dennis (Gina) Painter of Cloquet and Becky (Joe) Gartner of Racine, WI; one stepdaughter, Denise (Mark) Warner of Cromwell; two brothers, Harvey Willoughby of Esko and Bobby (Julie) Willoughby of Racine, WI; one sister, Karen Polston of Iron River, WI; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Samuel, Gavin, Jack, Jason, Marcus, Jaymee and Regan; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Pat Johnson, Irene Rudnicki and Barbara Davis; her church family, (too many to list) and her special dog, “Peanut.”

VISITATION: will be Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Inurnment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, followed with a luncheon in the church social hall. See the family’s online guest book at www.nelsonfuneralcare.net
