Pearle Helene Wilen passed away on Aug. 7, 2012 in Moose Lake, Minn.
She was born to Urjo Isaac Minkkinen and Aino Leiitinen Minkkinen on Oct. 16, 1929, near Brockett, N.D. at the beginning of the Great Depression.
Pearle attended school at Kalavala School, graduating from Barnum High School as valedictorian. In 1949, she married Eino Wilen, her spouse for 52 years until his death in 2001. They had three children: Wendy, Clyde ("Butch"), and David.
Pearle worked in Duluth and the Twin Cities after graduation, and after the children arrived, she did bookkeeping and accounting work for several businesses in Aitkin County.
She is survived by her children, Wendy Albright-Blau (Mark), Clyde Wilen (Betty Johnson), and David Wilen; grandchildren Shawn Wilen, Melanie Wilen (Jason Johnsen), Ian (Kaoko) Albright, Louisa Albright (Thurman Jack), Matthew Albright, Christina (Jim) Kurschner, Elisabeth Albright (Scott Nelson), Piper Albright, and Thomas Blau; brothers Toivo (Dolores) Minkkinen, John (Sigrid) Minkkinen; sisters Ellen Grothe, Laverna Field, and Marilyn Anderson; three great-grandchildren (with one more due in January); 42 nieces and nephews, and her ferocious, furry sidekick, Shadow.
Pearle typified many traits of her Finnish ancestry. She was neat, punctual, worked hard, was forthright with her ideas, a loyal friend and advocate, and loved her family most of all. She will be greatly missed.
