Eugene E. Kentala, 88, of Silver Bay, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and loved ones Friday, Aug. 17, 2012.
Eugene was born March 2, 1924, to Oscar and Sylvia (Paavola) Kentala in Iron Belt, Wis. He was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Army Americal Division. He then enlisted in the Air Force where he served for over 20 years. Eugene worked for 18 years with the city of Silver Bay Street Department.
He was a member and volunteer at the Silver Bay Golf Course, a member of the V.F.W. and Air Force Sgt. Association, and religiously played morning cribbage at the Silver Bay Lounge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Kentala; and his sister, Irma Lang.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Betzler); daughters Jean (John) Ehlers, Jo (William) Jones, Julie Jensen, June (David) Talus, and Janey (Dale) Knaffla; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, Jeanette Garcia; and sister-in-law Violet Theile.
