Philip Opien, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012.
Phil was born Jan. 20, 1919, to Harry and Lilly Opien and was a lifelong Duluth resident.
Phil was a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the All American Club, and a fantastic pool player. He was a truck driver, owning a fuel oil delivery business when he retired.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucile; brothers Roy, David, and Reuben; and sister Ruth.
Phil is survived by his daughter, Carol (Richard) Brozic; grandchildren, Wendy Brozic, Katie (Jon) Knoll, Mary (Patrick) Boldischar, and Joel (Sarah) Stensrud; great-grandchildren, Mary and Tommy Knoll, and Aidan, Anika, and Isabella Stensrud; sister-in-law, Betty Opien; and many nieces and nephews.
Phil was an independent man. He was kind, gentle, caring, and generous; a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a loving brother, brother-in-law, and uncle; and a loyal friend.
Phil’s complete devotion and dedication as a caregiver to his wife, Lucille, is legendary to those who knew him.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at his favorite place, the All American Club, 1931 W. Michigan St., Duluth. In lieu of flowers, donations to Solvay Hospice House, Duluth.
