MICHAEL “MICKY” K. ZUMBRUNNEN JR.

Michael “Micky” K. Zumbrunnen Jr., 70, of Superior, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, in Bayshore Health Center, Duluth.

Mickey was born Nov. 4, 1941, in Grand Rapids, the son of Michael K. Sr. and Estella A. (Miller) Zumbrunnen. He graduated from Embarrass High School in 1959.

Micky proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966 in Berlin, Cuba and Vietnam. On Oct. 12, 1973, in Sioux Falls, S.D., Michael K. Zumbrunnen Jr. and Elizabeth J. Holmes were united in marriage.

He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for various companies and was the owner of several businesses in the region including Twin Ports Recreation and Rental.

Micky was a member of the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435 in Superior and the V.F.W. in Gilbert.

Some of his interests included fishing, especially walleye fishing; duck and goose hunting trips; traveling; and going on various cruises with Betty.

He was preceded in death by his parent; wife Elizabeth “Betty” in 2010; brother Patrick; and father-in-law Earl Holmes.

Micky is survived by his children, Michael (Connie) Zumbrunnen of Pleasant View, Tenn., Angelina (Chris) Scribner of Waconia, Minn., Carrie (Steve) Sutherland of Superior, and Darin (Georgene) Tisdell of Superior; grandchildren Kayla, Kyle, Bridgette, Amanda, Kaila, April, Michael and Linzee; great-grandchildren Ayla and Payton; aunt Mary Gilmore of Remer, Minn.; and mother-in-law Louise Holmes of Biwabik.

VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, and 9 until the 10 a.m. service, Tuesday, Aug. 7, all in Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., Superior. Rev. Joel Huenemann, pastor of United Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Active pallbearers: Johnny Tisdell, Dan W. Holmes, Shawn Wirta, John Pfuhl, Terry Tisdell, Dan G. Holmes and Rodney Miller. Honorary pallbearer: Art Maki.
