Gertrude M. Mitchell, 81 of Cloquet, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
She was born May 3, 1931 in National City, Calif. Gertrude was raised in California by her parents, Horace and Marie Johnson and Raymond and Helen Lamb.
She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the U.S. Navy at North Island Naval Base for over 25 years. Gertrude has lived with her daughter Karen Murphy in Cloquet for the past eight years and she loved NASCAR Racing and country music.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gilbert Mitchell; her second husband, Floyd Howe; her brother and sister; and one son-in-law, Larry.
She is survived by four children daughter, Karen Murphy of Cloquet and her children, Dr. Shaneen (Kent) Schmidt, Jonathan (Marie) Murphy, Nicole Kutzler, Cassandra (Bil) Nicholson, Kristopher Murphy and Stephen (Felisha) Murphy; son, Steven L. Mitchell and his children, Liz (Rob) Bolton, Michelle, Jeffery (Sharon) Mitchell, and Danny Mitchell; daughter, Sandra (Jason) TerKeurst and her children, Kathleen TerKeurst, Ashley TerKeurst and Christian TerKeurst; and son, William Mitchell; one brother, Michael Johnson; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; special nephew, Christopher (Susan) Vollmer; and other nieces and nephews, Charles, Kathy, Lee and Debbie.
VISITATION: 1 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 until the 2 p.m. memorial service at the Encore Performing Arts Theater and Gallery, (2035 Highway 33 South, Cloquet, MN).
