Ellwood L Young, Sr., 89, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Virginia, Minn.
He was born in Ironwood, Mich., on Jan. 29, 1923.
He graduated from Virginia High School and attended college until his enlistment in the Marines Air Corps. He married JoAnn Mae Nesbitt on April 2, 1946 and they had four children and made their home in Virginia, Minn.
Ellwood was a licensed Master Plumber, and started Young Plumbing and Heating Co in the mid-1950s. He ran the company until his retirement in 1985. He was a man of integrity and sincerity, and these traits were noticed and appreciated by his family and all who knew him. His word and a handshake were as binding as a contract, both personally and in business.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and an accomplished private pilot. He spent his summers on Lake Vermilion with his family. Ellwood was a founding member of the Iron Range Association of PHCC; a lifetime member of the BPOE 1003; an Eveleth/Virginia Airport Commission member.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn; his parents; and many good friends.
Ellwood is survived by his children Gail (Charlie) Baribeau of Virginia, Ellwood "Buzz" Young Jr. of Virginia, Jarie (Tom) Klabechek of Iron, Karen (Larry) Roberts of Cherry; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Bob Simensen will officiate.
