Lawrence LeRoy Finifrock, 97 of Barnum died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.
He was born July 13, 1914 in Yakima Valley, Wash. to Albert and Mary Finifrock.
The family homesteaded in Montana from 1917 until 1920. They moved to New Underwood, S.D., living there until 1933. Lawrence married Marion Hill on March 27, 1938 in Barnum. He dairy farmed until 1967. Lawrence also worked for the Soo Line Railroad, Diamond Match, and the Moose Lake State Hospital before retiring in 1980. After retirement he lived on Crystal Lake in Mahtowa before moving to Chub Lake in 1986.
Lawrence was a former member of the Church of the Brethren and has been a member of the Barnum United Methodist Church since the early 1960's. He had been a director of Deer Park Telephone Company, was on the school board of Central and Barnum schools, and was on the Mahtowa town board for 17 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; brothers, Percy, Harry, and Earl; daughter-in-law, Judy Finifrock.
He is survived by three sons, Glenn and Roger (Deanna) both of Barnum, and Roy of Excelsior; daughter, Bettie Karki of Wausau, Wis.; sister, Berniece (Harold) Bergstrom of Moose Lake; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 in the Barnum United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Barnum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnum United Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements entrusted to the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
