Edward William Erzar, 28, of Ely died on Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Ely.
Ed was born to Bill and Debbie (Dubbin) Erzar on May 10, 1984, at Ely Bloomenson Hospital. He grew up in Ely and graduated from Ely Memorial High School, Class of 2002. Ed worked for his Uncle Dan at Erzar Candy and Supply, which influenced his decision to continue his education at UMD School of Business.
Having the feel for culinary arts, Ed became an accomplished chef. He started in junior high school at Joe’s IGA making pasties. He continued his working career at the Ely Steak House, Tejas Texas Grill and Saloon and at Clyde Iron Restaurant, the latter two in Duluth. While working at Tejas, he won Second Place in the Duluth KQDS Grill Wars 2 competition in June 2009, with Eddie’s Blazing BBQ Burger. Ed moved back to Ely to be with love of his life, his daughter, Peyton Star, and his family.
Ed continued his employment in the restaurant business at the Boathouse in Ely and also as a maintenance man at Dan’s Ely Car Wash, named after his Uncle Dan.
He enjoyed being a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, playing Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball as well as following the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, especially #28, Adrian Peterson.
Keeping his knack for the outdoors, he built a shack with his friends on the family property for relaxation and hunting.
He and Peyton enjoyed swimming at Granny’s, being at Grandma and Grandpa’s, special Christmases and going to the shack. When he had the opportunity, he enjoyed being part of the Pit Crew for his brother, Chris and GLH Performance in IWA Snowmobile Watercross Racing competitions.
He is survived by his daughter, Peyton Star Erzar-Tyndall; parents, Bill and Debbie Erzar; brother, Chris Erzar; maternal grandmother, Adrienne Dubbin, all of Ely; uncle Jim and aunt Connie Erzar of Deer River; uncle George and aunt Becky Ewinski; aunt Anne Folz of Ely; uncle Ron and aunt Lori Dubbin of Ely; and uncle Jeff Dubbin of Duluth; cousins Kristi (Nate) Anderson of Bloomington; Matt Erzar of New York; Michael (Jennifer) Ewinski of St. Cloud; Stephanie (Lucas) Huhe of Bloomington; Jennifer (Aaron) Folz of Clemson, S.C.; Stephen (Rachel) Ewinski of Two Harbors; Tyler (Jessica) Erzar and Maija Erzar of Deer River and many special friends.
