Walter Arthur "Walt" Stafford, Jr. of Duquette, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in Essentia St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Walter Arthur "Walt" Stafford, Jr. of Duquette, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in Essentia St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Walt was born June 2, 1948 in Duluth to Betty and Walt Stafford, Sr.

As a youth, Walter was a faithful paper boy and loved the Riverside Marine. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1966.

Walter proudly joined the United States Marine Corps on June 7, 1966. He was a highly decorated Marine receiving many medals including the Purple Heart and was honorable discharged as a Sergeant. Walter, also known as "Boots" served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Walter loved motorcycles and bought his first one at a young age. He was one of the original members of the Saddle Tramps. In 2011, he joined the United States Marine Corps Leathernecks Motorcycle Club.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Holly Marshall, of Duluth and son, Keane Carlson, of Nickerson; grandchildren, Cassandra and Logan; his parents; a sister, Ellen (Jeff) Nace; two nephews and a niece.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, June 12, in Oak Lake Lutheran Church, 53131 Shadow Oak Rd., Kerrick, Minn.

We had a Great Pleasure to also meet this man!!! Love and Prayer's to you all!! May you all have peace and comfort knowing that he will be missed by many! He will be in spirits with us all!! May God Bless you all!!

Fairmount,Indiana,had James Dean (Cool),Happy Days had Fonzie,Riverside Walter he was our cool.The first time I met Walter was in Riverside on his new motorcycle,talk about cool,Walter was it.The thing that impressed me most about Walter was his true love and respect for our English teacher Mrs. Jane Gunderson for the beautiful words he spoke at her funeral.Walter you were a good Marine,honest friend,and an all around wonderful guy.Rest in peace my friend,in life you always fought to survive,in death you earned eternal life.
