Leslie W. Johnson, 77, died June 5, 2012.

He was born Dec. 14, 1934.

He grew up in Lakewood, living there his entire life. Les graduated from Duluth Central in 1952. Les met Gail Glass at a Friday the 13th Dance and married in 1957. They had two daughters, Leslie and Brook. They were wonderful dancers, even taking disco lessons. Les could polka and could lead and swirl you through a crowded dance floor.

He was active and self-sufficient up to the end, even cutting his own wood. Les loved the outdoors, motorcycling, hunting, snowmobiling, and nature. He retired from St. Louis County working as a highway surveyor. He played softball into his 70's. He was proud of his Finnish descent. He enjoyed cribbage.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Gail, in 2002; parents, George and Alma Johnson, and sister Doris Solem.

Les is survived by his daughters Leslie (Ken) Johnson- Aldrich and Brook (Jason) Budisalovich; grandchildren, Dieter and Gillian; and great grandson, Hayden; his cribbage buddies, Dick Thompson and brother George "Art" Johnson; sister Brenda Johnson Biddle, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave.
