Lois Dorothy Novak Salo, 85, of Duluth, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in St. Luke's Hospice.
Lois was born in Minneapolis, on Feb. 20, 1927, to Mabel A. and John A. Novak. She moved to Duluth at the age of two.
Lois was a graduate of Duluth Denfeld High School and Duluth Business University. In addition she had attended extension classes in business at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She was married to Ronald A. Salo and they had one daughter, Roni Ann. They were later divorced. Lois worked as the Secretary to the Manager at New York Life Insurance for 10 years and then as the Assistant Administrator for Payroll and Human Resources Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth for 34 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a 50 year member of the Trinity Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and had served in various star point positions, original member of the University of Minnesota Duluth Campus Club and a member of Business Professional Women. Lois enjoyed golfing, reading, art, theatre and traveling with her daughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Marilyn Desilet and her former husband.
Lois is survived by a daughter, Roni Ann of Duluth; her brother-in-law Keith Desilet, Oshkosh, Wis.; her nephew Dean (Renee) Desilet, Oshkosh, Wis.; her niece Melanie (Michael) Meisheff, Elizabeth, Colo.; her great nephew and niece Luke and Emily Desilet, Oshkosh, Wis.; a special cousin Dorothy (James) Soderlund, Milaca, Minn.; and extended family.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospice and ICU as well as the staff at Diamond Willow for their excellent care. A special thank you to Lois' home caregivers Mandy Lawrence, Holly Syring, Myra DeGraef and Shannon Lehikoinen for their support and loving care these last few years.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home, 3208 W. 3rd St., Duluth, 624-1059. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, Wis. Arrangements are being made by Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home. If so desired, memorial contributions preferred for St. Luke's cardiac care via St. Luke's Foundation, 1000 E. Frist Street, Suite N102, Duluth, MN 55805 or directed to the family to be donated in Lois' memory.
