Kristopher K Kunze, 30, of Duluth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Kris was born Nov. 4, 1981 in Minneapolis, to Ken and Deborah (Myking) Kunze.
He and his mother moved to Cloquet when he was two and at three he attended gifted and talented classes because he was exceptionally bright. He grew up in Cloquet and attended school there. Was very musically gifted and played multiple instruments, attending UWS for piano. Kris continued programs for the gifted and talented throughout his school years.
He attended Bethany Covenant Church and Park Lake Bible Camp in the summers, where he was baptized at the age of 11. Kris was a boy scout. At 20 he entered the Job Corp for Brick Laying and completed a 17 month course in four months and then attended Graduate School in N.Y. He then helped with Hurricane Katrina relief. He lived both in Cloquet and Duluth, playing guitar and piano, always singing and writing music. He was involved in multiple musical endeavors, for a time played professionally with his mom and solo, even putting out a CD. Music was his life. During the last two years of his life he was introduced to and became a part of the brotherhood of NYDM. They were an extended family to Kris and he found a kinship there. Throughout his life Kris was never seen without a book in hand, sometimes reading 6 or 8 at a time. He was gentle and kind to his mother, helping her for weeks to provide care because she was without help. He freely gave of his time without a thought of himself. This will never be forgotten. He touched the hearts of so many, will be forever loved and will be sorely missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Georgia Myking; paternal grandfather Bill Kunze; maternal aunts Kathleen Andybur and Mary Myking.
Kris is survived by his mother Deborah Myking of Cloquet; Ken and Marilyn Kunze of Brainerd; step sister Vanessa: grandmother Joyce Kunze of Crystal; brother Nick Wester of Cloquet; uncle Larry Myking of St. Paul; cousins Frank Martin (Sherry Nelson, fiancee') of Cloquet, Angie (Matt) Warner of Lino Lakes, and Christie Myking of Navare, Fla.
