Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Alpert, 94, of Duluth, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
Beth was born May 29, 1917 to Clair and Ellen (Gossman) Snyder in Canton, Minn.
Beth moved to Duluth from Preston, Minn., in 1936 working at the Radio Grill. She married Joe Alpert in 1938. They lived in the Piedmont Avenue area and the Skyline Blvd. until 1952 when they moved to French River where they built and managed Alpert's Motel until 1976. Beth also worked at Oreck's and volunteered with the Duluth Kennel Club as Treasurer, the Clover Valley/Bloomington School District, Girl Scout activities and fund raising, and the Lake Superior North Shore Association as Secretary/Treasurer where she opened and managed the tourist information booth at Lester River until 1997. She was involved in Duluth business and civic interests. Beth moved to St. Ann's Residence in 2002.
Beth was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe after 66 years of marriage; her parents; brother Robert; sisters Doris Pierce, Phyllis Johnson, Bernice Nali, Kay Weigel and son-in-law Jack Claveau.
Beth is survived by her five children, Virginia Claveau of Duluth, Sandra (David) Gravelle of Barrington, Ill., Michelle Floyd of Marietta, Ga., Larry (Ida) Alpert of Fridley, Minn., and Nancy (John) Yarush of Oak Park, Ill; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister Merle Krenzke; brother Howard (Jeaneane) Snyder; and sister-in-law Lillian Alpert.
She loved her family and was actively involved in their lives. Beth will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of St. Ann's Residence for their friendship and care.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Dougherty Funeral Home.
