Robert H. Hermanson, 86, died peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth on Sunday April 29, 2012 after a brief illness.

Robert H. Hermanson, 86, died peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth on Sunday April 29, 2012 after a brief illness.

He was born in Duluth, on Aug. 15, 1925 to Eno and Alli Hermanson.

His family moved to Minneapolis when he was a boy. Following graduation from North High School in 1943, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and received his honorable discharge in August of 1946. Robert attended the University of Minnesota. On Sept. 20, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary Jayne Seamans.

Robert's teaching career began in Stillwater, Minn., at Stillwater Junior High. In 1955 he began teaching at Marshall High School in Minneapolis. His teaching career continued at West High School in Minneapolis where he served as a Job Coordinator until his retirement. Robert and Mary Jayne resided in Brooklyn Center for the next 54 years. In 2009 they moved to Cloquet to live with their daughter and son-in-law. He was a resident of Westwood Assisted Living Apartments at the time of his illness.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; son, Brett Hermanson; and sister, Ruth Hermanson.

Left to mourn are his daughter, Rev. Linda (Rev. Loren) Schumacher of Cloquet; sons, Robb (Lucy) Hermanson of Duluth and Kevin Hermanson of Minneapolis; grandkids, Laura, Erick (Mary), Amanda and Matt; great-grandkids, Holly and Jack; and good friend, Ernie Zimmerman. Robert loved gardening and was an avid reader. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

VISITATION: 1 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012 until the 2 p.m. memorial service in Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet. Military honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
