William John "Bill" "Pooper" Poderzay, 60 of Mt. Iron died Saturday, May 5, in St. Luke's Hospital.

William John "Bill" "Pooper" Poderzay, 60 of Mt. Iron died Saturday, May 5, in St. Luke's Hospital.

He was born Oct. 18, 1951 in Virginia the son of Edward J. and Phyllis Ann (Kutcher) Poderzay.

Bill was a 1971 graduate of Gilbert High School and a graduate of the Eveleth Vocational Technical Institute. He married Deborah Stickney on July 21, 1973 in the Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. Bill was employed by U.S. Steel from 1973 until his retirement in 2003. He was a former President of the Minnesota Deer Hunter's Association Taconite Chapter; a member of the Iron Range Radio Control Club; and was an avid hunter and sportsman. Bill and his family were active participants in the Duluth Kidney Walk to benefit the National Kidney Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Bill is survived by his wife Debbie; sons David (Maria) Poderzay of Eveleth and Corey (Colleen) Poderzay of Parkville; sister Mary Jo (Kenny) Volker of Chisholm; a beautiful granddaughter Sophia of Virginia; step-grandsons Cade and Chase Peterson; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family including a special niece Stephanie Sklors who donated a kidney to Bill in 2010 that afforded him a better quality of life.

VISITATION: 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 until the 12 Noon Funeral Service in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Chapel in Virginia. Reverend Father John O'Donnell will officiate. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred and may directed to the National Kidney Foundation.

Bill's family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Hospice and Dr. Sandy Popham for their special care, concern, and positive attitude.
