Pierre YJ Saillard, 73, of Superior, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 13, 2012, after a long battle with COPD.
He was born in France and came to Superior in 1970.
He earned his degree in technology and worked for BNSF for 30 years as an electrical supervisor.
Pierre was an amazingly resourceful and intelligent man. Pierre could fix anything and was admired by many. He was a lover of the sea, a world traveler, master model ship builder, historian and philatelist. He was a generous, kind man, although very strong willed at times. The best grandfather to his three beloved grandsons, who he spoiled a little too much. They were the light of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
Pierre is survived by his beloved family: his wife of 45 years, Barbara; son Yan (Heidi); grandsons Jean-Luc, Kieran and Aidan and several family members in France.
A special thank you to Dr. Georgia Brunette and Dr. Peter Franklin of Essentia Health for their many years of caring, Essentia Home Hospice and Palliative Care for being there for us, and Solvay Hospice House for his respite visits.
Pierre was a joy to have known. He had a good, interesting life and will be missed.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at 2406 Hill Avenue, Superior. Pierre's family invites friends to come and share your memories.
When I am gone release me, I won't be far away, for life goes on, so if you need me- call- and I will come.
Though you can't see me, or touch me, I'll be near.
If you listen with your heart, you'll hear all my love around you, soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this away alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say Welcome Home. (Author Virginia Lord Hoyt) Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota. 218-624-5200.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I met Pierre at a Spanish class at Wisconsin Technical College. He was a lot of fun and was very encouraging ... enjoyed quite a few laughs. He was a fine man.Saginaw, MN 04/29/2012 9:56 AM
