William A. Hanson, 69, Taconite, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in the Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital, Grand Rapids.

William A. Hanson, 69, Taconite, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in the Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital, Grand Rapids.

Born April 11, 1943, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of Edward V. and Thyrabelle M. (Dunstan) Hanson. Bill was a 1961 graduate of Greenway High School, had been an electronics technician for U.S. Steel and an instructor at Hibbing Com-­­ munity College. Bill was very active in the Taconite community and had served on the City Council, the Zoning and Planning Board, the Bovey, Taconite, Coleraine joint Waste Water Treatment Commission, the Western Mesabi Mine Planning Board, Itasca County Health and Human Services Board, the Arrowhead Library System Board, was a former member of the Marble United Methodist Church, and was very active with Big Brother, Mentoring, and foster care.

His parents, Edward and Thyrabelle Hanson preceded him in death.

Survivors include Mike (Rene’) Vogel and their children, Luke, Derek, and Casey of rural Bovey; Mark Hanson of rural Grand Rapids, Patrick (Mary) Hanson and their children, Lee and Lynn of Grand Rapids, and several cousins.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.

Bill was a great email buddy. I didn't always agree with him but you could count on him for a lively, intelligent conversation (understatement!) He will be very sadly missed and my heart goes out to his friends and family. Keeley Todd Bovey
