Winnie R. (Fauvell) Nelson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 12, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long courageous battle with breast cancer.
She was born July 9, 1927 to Jack and Ruth Fauvell.
Winnie lived her entire life in the Woodland and Rice Lake Township area. As a young adult she enjoyed skating at the Duluth Curling Club. She volunteered at the Crisis Shelter and House of Hope. She loved people and loved to cook and entertain at the cabin on Jacob's Lake. She volunteered many years for the Homecroft PTA. She had a wonderful sense of humor, love of reading and politics. She enjoyed her family and friends. Winnie embodied the spirit of life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Nelson; her parents Jack and Ruth Fauvell; sisters Aline Zimmerman and Jackie Arthur; in-laws Paul and Carolyn Nelson.
Winnie is survived by her sister Georgia (Al Johnson) O'Brien; sons Randy J. (Jean Laine) Nelson, Ted Nelson; daughters Wendy (Walt) Anderson and Cindy (Tony Vittorio) Nelson; grandchildren Samantha (Travis) Murphy, David (Deb) Alander, Julie (Craig) Gilje, Kirsten Pohl and Elizabeth Pohl; great-grandchildren, Reese, Wyatt, Eliot, Bryce, River, Maxine, Ian, Molly and Jamie, also several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the nurses and doctors at the St. Luke's 5th floor ICU for compassionate care.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota, with a visitation one hour prior.
Memorials to Circle of Hope in lieu of flowers.
