Margaret M. McLean, 86, of Duluth passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret M. McLean, 86, of Duluth passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret Mary Koop was born May 6, 1925 in Brainerd, Minn., the daughter of Earl and Eleanore (Caulfield) Koop.

She grew up in Brainerd and after graduating from high school moved to Duluth, where she attended the College of St. Scholastica. Margaret graduated with a degree in Social Work in 1947.

She married George McLean in 1947 in Brainerd. They made their home in Duluth, where they raised their family.

Margaret was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Rosary Society. She was an avid sports fan, enjoying football and hockey. Margaret and George bowled in leagues for over 40 years. She loved animals and cherished the family pets. She spent summers at the family cabin on East Bass Lake enjoying the outdoors.

The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to all who provided care and support to our mother. A special thank you to the staff at Solvay Hospice House, Essentia Health (doctors and nurses), Diamond Willow, and Westwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughter Joanne, and three brothers.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Carol (Robert) Anderson of Minneapolis, Mary (Matthew) Butorac of Hermantown, Patricia McLean of Rochester, Brigid (Charles) Adams of Spokane, Wash., and Margaret (Brad) Benson of St. Louis Park; son, Robert (Elizabeth) McLean of Prior Lake, Minn.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 East Second St., Duluth. A prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. There will be visitation at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict Street, Duluth. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Duluth. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, (218) 727-3555.
