Donald Holmgren, 83, of Duluth passed away Sunday March 25, 2012 at the Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine, Minn.

Donald Holmgren, 83, of Duluth passed away Sunday March 25, 2012 at the Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine, Minn.

He was born in Thief River Falls, Minn., on July 13, 1928 to Edward and Martha (Miller) Holmgren.

Don came from California to Duluth in 1939 and as he came of age he worked for Western Electric, Soo Line Railroad, and retired from the Postal Service in 1986 after 30 years of service.

Don served as a Sergeant with the 14th Tank Company, 25th division during the Korean Conflict and later joined the Guard Reserve in Duluth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 58 years Katherine; and his brother Wayne.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Steven) Armstrong; grandchildren Samantha Johnson, Alexandra Armstrong, Zachery Armstrong and great grandson Haydin Johnson.

PRIVATE SERVICE: for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
