Alice June Merrill, 89, Gary-New Duluth, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at River Hills Assisted Living Facility.
Alice June Merrill, 89, Gary-New Duluth, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at River Hills Assisted Living Facility.
She was born March 12, 1923 in Duluth and had been a lifelong resident.
Alice had worked as a nurse's aide in St. Mary's Hospital for 20 years and for Lake Haven Manor six years until her retirement. She loved sewing, baking and reading and later in life when her eyes failed she enjoyed listening to book tapes.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Douglas in 1999; sister Gladys and daughter-in-law Carol.
She is survived by daughter Susan (Richard) Linde, Duluth; sons Dennis (Vicki) of Superior, Wayne of Duluth, Tom (Nancy) of Hibbing; sisters Phyllis Englemen of Payson, Ariz., Delores Holm of Apple Valley; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staffs of River Hills Assited Living and Essentia Health Hospice Care for all the care and comfort they provided.
VISITATION AND CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 12 Noon-2 p.m. Friday, March 30 in Sunrise Funeral Home with lunch and fellowship. A private family committal service will be in Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.
