RICHARD C. NORDHOLM

Richard "Dick" C. Nordholm, 84, of Rio Verde, Ariz. passed away Feb. 22, 2012.

Richard "Dick" C. Nordholm, 84, of Rio Verde, Ariz. and Cloquet, Minn., passed away on Feb. 22, 2012.

Dick was born on Aug. 2, 1927 in Red Wing, Minn., the son of Herbert and Mabel Nordholm.

Dick touched many people throughout his lifetime with his sincere interest in those from all walks of life, his innate ability to inspire others to find the best in themselves, and his joy with family and friends.

He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1945, served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from Carleton College in 1951. He was an executive with Potlatch Corporation (fka The Northwest Paper Company) for 31 years, ultimately serving as General Manager of The Northwest Paper Company in Minnesota and as a senior executive in California.

Dick was passionate about building strong communities and served in leadership positions in nearly 30 community, church and education-based organizations over 50 years including the Cloquet (Minnesota) School and Hospital Boards, the Moraga (California) Planning Commission, the Cloquet and Lafayette (California) Presbyterian Church Boards, the Rio Verde (Arizona) Community Church Board, and the Carleton College AAF Board and Board of Trustees.

Dick was an enthusiastic musician and played the piano and clarinet for over 65 years with the Red Wing, Cloquet and Scottsdale (Arizona) Community Bands.

Dick's love and inspiration continue to be felt through his wife of 60 years, Marianne, his children, Brad (Alison) Nordholm of Greenwich, Conn., Sarah (Joseph) Davis of Bethesda, Md., Karen (Robert) Anderson of Stillwater, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; two grandchildren-in-law; his sister, Marjory (Barry) Saunders of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his AFS son, Jens Moelgaard Sorensen of Brande, Denmark.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 4:30 p.m. March 17, 2012, in the Rio Verde Community Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cloquet Education Foundation, 302 14th Street, Cloquet, MN 55720 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
