Melvin Wallace Fremling, 73, of Munger passed away on Feb. 24, 2012, in his home surrounded by his family.
Melvin was born in Plummer, Minn., on March 7, 1938, to Reuben and Lydia Fremling.
Melvin married Darlene Willoughby on Sept. 20, 1958, in St. Clement's Church, Duluth. Mel worked at U.S. Steel until its closure. He retired from the DM&IR in 2000. He was an avid fisherman and cribbage master. He also enjoyed camping, pinochle, poker, and horseshoes.
Mel is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel "Bud"; and grandchild, Tracy.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Cindy (Jim) Bistis, Laurie, Carrie Ohme, Don (KerryEllen), Ron (Alexis), Steven (Kris), Jody (Aaron) McIntosh, and Brad (Michelle); 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Ida Christine Wesley, Kenneth (Diane) Fremling, Reuben "Ted", Ruby (Willie) Herrington, Gene (Sharon), and Dennis.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in the Cremation Society of Minnesota. Memorial Service 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, in the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
