Verna J. Furiel, 82, of Floodwood, Minn., passed away Monday following a courageous battle against ovarian cancer.
Verna J. Furiel, 82, of Floodwood, Minn., passed away Monday following a courageous battle against ovarian cancer.
She was born Aug. 9, 1929 to J. A. and Hannah Finnila in Floodwood and married Gilbert Polla in 1948. They had four children when Gib passed away in 1965. She married Joe Furiel in 1968 and they had a full life together with family, friends and traveling.
Verna worked at the First State Bank of Floodwood for more than 25 years retiring as Vice President in 1991. She was also active in Hope Lutheran Church, holding the Financial Secretary position for more than 35 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents J.A. & Hanna Finnila; and brother, K.O. Finnila.
She is survived by her children, Nancy (Wayne) Watanabe of Kailua Kona, HI, Gerald Polla of Chicago Ill., Carol (Graham) Smith of Plymouth, Minn., and Susan Polla of Captain Cook, HI.; grandsons, Brock Stepan of Minneapolis and Bryce Stepan of St. Paul.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, until the 11 a.m. Celebration of Life Service in Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood, Minn. Rev. Carl L. Fiskness will officiate. Burial will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
