EVA "MAE" LOWE

On Wednesday Jan.

On Wednesday Jan. 11, 2011, Eva "Mae" Lowe, a truly beautiful and gentle soul, left this world to dance with the angels.

She was born in Duluth to Arthur and Eva Johnson on July 11, 1936, during one of the hottest summers in Duluth history.

Ironically, she is leaving us during one of the warmest winters on record! She grew up in West Duluth, attending Longfellow, West Junior, and Denfeld, graduating in 1954. She was also a lifelong member of Elim Lutheran Church. In 1958, the love of her life, Terry Lowe, returned from Okinawa, where he had been stationed with the USAF, and the two were married. Their first adventure started very quickly with their move to Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL. It was here that their first daughter, Diane, was born. After Terry's discharge, they returned to Minnesota and purchased a home in Proctor just in time to welcome their second daughter, Deborah. Eva Mae worked at Chung King, Oneida, and the Proctor School District, but being a stay at home mom was the job she loved most. After her own children were grown, she did child care in her home for her grandchildren, and special grandchildren. She was an excellent crafter and was proud to win the title of Grand Champion at the South St. Louis County Fair and many homes still display the beautiful birdhouses made by Terry and Mae.

Mae and Terry moved to Zenith Terrace, where they made many wonderful friends, but physical limitations eventually necessitated her moving to St Eligius. Mae faced many medical challenges in her later years, but with a tenacious, yet graceful, resolve that inspired us all!

She is preceded in leaving this life by her parents and her brothers, Lawrence, and Richard, Terry's parents and sister-in-law, Marceline LaDuke.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, Terry, her daughters and their husbands, Diane and John Strongitharm and Gifford and Deb Trethewey, granddaughter, Sarah Strongitharm and her fiancé, Steve Schuyler, grandson, Billy Trethewey, great-granddaughter, Emma Strongitharm, sister, Ruth Rapson, sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson, and Sevy Johnson, "special grandchildren", Jack and Cori Pelletier and their mom, Julie, many nieces, nephews and cousins, her Farkle Group and amazing friends!

The family would like to warmly thank the staff and volunteers of St. Eligius who gave Mae a wonderful home, Dr. Maddy and his staff for extending to her their friendship, as well as their professional care, and the staff of the med/surg dept. and burn ICU at Miller Dwan for their tender care of Mae.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16 until the 11 a.m. service in Elim Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St Eligius Health Center Foundation are preferred.

Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of MN, 218-624-5200

Terry & family, "Mae Mae" was a jewel and loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. I so enjoyed being in her presence, playing farkle, and often just having a nice "motherly" talk she would so graciously take time to do with me. She will be sorely missed at St. Eligius. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this sad journey in life. Thinking of you, Sissy
