Donald Z. Woods, 96, of St. Paul, passed way Dec. 13, 2011.
Don earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Iowa and his masters and PhD at the University of Minnesota. He also studied at the University of Chicago.
He was a member of the Rhetoric Department at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus, for 10 years. He retired in 1985 after 22 years as associate Dean of Continuing Education and Extension, now College of Continuing Education, at the University of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 35 years, Paula; sister Merle Simpson; brother Norman; great-niece Ashley Rose Jordan; Annette Simpson; and good friend Gerald Klement.
Don is survived by his niece, Barbara (Stanley) Ferris of Hoyt Lakes, and their children, Stanley "Tom", Steven, Darcie and Glenn; Carol Daigle, emb raced by the family as a member of the family; niece Sarah Jordan of Moss, Tenn; nephew Robert K. Simpson, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; niece Judigy Gray of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, nephew Gordon Woods of California; and the Carstens, Anlauf and Gunderson familieis of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the St. Paul Foundation, the Minnesota Historical Society, or to the discretion of the Dean of the Colege of Continuing Education.
