KATHRYN ANN(LEMIEUX) ADAMS
Kathryn Anne (Lemieux) Adams, of Duluth, died Thursday, Dec.
Kathryn Anne (Lemieux) Adams, of Duluth, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, on her 82nd birthday, peacefully in her sleep.
Kathryn was originally from International Falls and graduated from Stanbrook High School at St. Scholastica in 1946. She later obtained her bachelor degree in art at U.M.D. with a minor in music and recently was working on completing her master degree in art.
As a young mother and wife, she lived and raised seven children in the Canosia township area, initially in a rustic log cabin by Pike Lake, and eventually in a house the family built on the Miller Trunk Highway a few miles away. Over the years as the children grew, the homestead also grew to include horses, cattle and other farm animals that the family raised.
Kathryn had numerous life interests, including writing and playing music on the piano, sewing quilts, art, sculpture, carving, writing, history, journaling, photography, reading, genealogy, bread making and poetry. She was a very talented woman and also loved the outdoors. She was an avid fisherwoman and enjoyed brook trout fishing on her many trips to the Superior National Forest and Isabella areas.
Kathryn was active for many years in Canosia Township, the Pike Lake Riders Saddle Club, Pike Lake Elementary PTA, and Canosia Township Historical Society. She co-authored, with her daughter Mary, a book on local history. She served on the St. Louis County Historical Society Board. Kathryn was an accomplished artist of many media forms, worked for a period as a commercial artist, and received numerous art awards over the years.
Kathryn will be remembered for her free spirited non-negotiable independence, eccentric demeanor, and irreverent sense of humor and wit.
She was preceded in her death by parents, Louis P. Lemieux and Bonnie Ryan Lemieux; siblings Louis, Edward, James and Mary Lemieux; husbands Walter A. Prahl II and Richard Adams; and sons Steven Prahl, Jerome Prahl and Robert Prahl.
Kathryn is survived by her children, Margaret (James) Anderson, Mary Schrock, Susan (Larry) Zimmerman and Walter A. (Marian) Prahl III; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Post, Christopher Anderson, Nora Ulland, Christopher (Sheehan) Schrock, Joseph (Kelly) Schrock, Stephen (Amanda) Moen, Tony (Kelly) Moen, Jason Moen, Jerid Prahl, Dr. Mary Kathryn Prahl, Natalie (Gordy) Wedin and Jaron Borbridge; and many great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Superior View Assisted Living for their loving and expert care of Kathryn.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial and celebration of life Monday, Dec. 13, in St. Raphael Church, 5779 Seville Road, Pike Lake. Internment at Canosia Cemetery. Memorials to the Canosia volunteer fire department would be appreciated. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, (218) 727-3555.
