Duluth native and East alumnus Michael L. Johnson, 58, died April 1, 2010, at Chris Jensen Health Care Center — the same day that his mother, Dorothy (Olander) Johnson, passed away. Services were held Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
Ida Lees, 87
Duluth native, Central alumnus and World War II veteran Ida Lees, 87, formerly of Seventh Avenue East, died April 3, 2010, at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown. Services were Wednesday at Shaara Tzedek Cemetery in Hermantown.
Jean J. Lucas, 76
Jean Joseph Lucas, 76, died April 5, 2010, at home. Services were held Friday at First Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Carl George Norell, 89
Carl George Norell, 89, of Rice Lake Road, died April 6, 2010, at Chris Jensen Health Center. Services will be held Saturday at Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Blackhoof Township. Call Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home at 624-1059 for the time.
Emil G. Plets, 100
Emil G. Plets, 100, died March 30, 2010. Born in Belgium, he came to America in 1912 where his family settled first in Duluth’s West End, then Lakewood. After he retired, this businessman developed gardens on his and city property on St. Marie Street, an activity that garnered him several awards for “Beautifying the City” from Mayor Ben Boo. Services were Wednesday at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Glen O. Sather, 78
Duluth native, Central alumnus and Korean Conflict veteran Glen O. Sather, 78, died April 6, 2010. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave. Call 624-5050.
Rose Frances Zatocil, 95
Rose Frances Zatocil, 95, of Meadowlands, died March 31, 2010, at Chris Jensen Nursing Home. She was born to Czechoslovakian immigrants in Willow River. Services will be held at a later date; arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200.
