JANE LACHMUND HEIMBACHJane Lachmund Heimbach peacefully went to be with her Lord, husband and daughter, Friday Feb.
Jane Lachmund Heimbach peacefully went to be with her Lord, husband and daughter, Friday Feb. 13, 2009.
She was born in Duluth on July 10, 1927, to Otto and Florence (Draper) Lachmund.
Jane was one of an era of women who lived with a special dignity. She was a very gracious, generous hearted woman and a devoted Christian, loving her many years in Community Bible Study.
She was very active in Junior League all of her life, and was a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award. She was past President of the PTA, a member of the Kitchi Gammi Club, Pilgrim Congregational Church, Knife River Lutheran Church and Northland Country Club, where she was runner-up in the Women's Club Championship for a few years.
After lovingly raising four children, she switched careers and worked together with her husband at Bagley & Company Jewelry, where she worked in the China department and loved her customers. She became a very good water color artist, and was a devoted Nana to her grandchildren and Nana-Mimi to her great-grandchildren. It was her love and forgiveness that held her family together all of these years.
In her youth, she was the youngest winner of the Arrowhead Retriever Club Open Championship with her Black Labrador, Jet. Jane loved to run, and grew up with her family in the outdoors. She carried that passion over to her family and involved everyone in brook trout fishing, bird hunting, agate finding and blueberry and strawberry picking.
Jane attended school at Congdon, Normal, Stanbrook Hall, Dana Hall and Wheaton College.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard Bagley Heimbach; parents, Otto and Florence Lachmund; and daughter, Dale Heimbach Wheeler.
Jane is survived by her children, Sally (Bill) Zelen of Duluth, Rick (Lori) Heimbach of Duluth and Barbi (Orrin) Webber of Kalispell, Mont.; grandchildren, Carrie (Pat) Heffernan, Dan (Camille) Zelen, Nathan Wheeler, Matthew (Deanne) Zelen, Andrew (Becky) Wheeler, Blake Webber, Michelle Heimbach and Brianne Webber; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Joseph Zelen, Haley and Arianna Jane Zelen, Ben, Nick and Ashton Heffernan and Landon Dale Wheeler; and sisters, Ann (Robert Jr.) Mars and Gail (Sumner) Gleason; and sister-in-law, Nancy (James) Claypool.
The family is very thankful for the loving care given from the staff at Lakeview Memorial Nursing Home, Benedictine Health Center, SMDC Hospice and Natalie and her staff at Diamond Willow.
