Wayne A. Bolen Jr. was born Dec. 9, 1954 and grew up in Knife River. He joined the Army in December 1971 and served at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Sill, Okla.; Fort Campbell, Ky.; and Fort Stewart, Ga. His overseas duty included four tours in Korea, a tour in Germany and service in Egypt. Bolen successfully completed the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and served in Desert Storm as Sgt. Maj. of a direct support maintenance battalion. His last duty station was Fort Richardson, Alaska, as food service Sergeant Major for the 6th Infantry Division. He retired in September 1994.
