Albin “Bena” F. Boben of Gary-New Duluth entered the Naval Reserve on May 31, 1943. He was a coxswain aboard the destroyer USS McCall (DD 400) in the Pacific Theater. He was involved in the invasions of the Marshall Islands, Palau, Samar, Wodke, Hollandia, Aitape, Saipan, Tinian and Guam; Iwo Jima; Okinawa, Luzon and Leyte in the Philippines; and several raids on Truk and on Chi Chi Jima and HaHa Jima in Bonin Islands. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Stars and World War II Victory Medal and was discharged Feb. 10, 1946.
