Rhubarb Festival

The three women are part of a group of women who have worked under the watchful eye of Bea Ojakangas since that first rhubarb festival. In the foreground, Yvonne Anderson and Susanne Bakken use a Moline sheeter machine to mechanically roll out pie crusts. “There are rollers inside the machine that we adjust to different levels. The object is to keep the dough as round as possible. The people who will make the pies will probably have to use their rolling pins to finish it off, but the hardest part is done,” said Ojakangas, whose brother, Gene Luoma, invented the machine.
