Brent Zettl, president and CEO of Prairie Plant Systems Inc. and SubTerra LLC, looks at some of their plants on April 4 in a former copper mine used for plant-based pharmaceutical research in White Pine, Mich. Prairie Plant Systems Inc., a Canadian biotechnology company that’s been growing plants underground for more than a decade, has a contract to supply medical marijuana in Canada and would need approval from Michigan and federal officials to convert the mine in White Pine to marijuana production.
