Despite having a well-respected folk singer for a father, the house in Iowa where Pieta Brown spent her first years in didn’t have running water. “Well, I know I’m still always kind of impressed when hot water comes out of the faucet,” she told the Budgeteer. “It was no big deal, you know: That was what I grew up with for the first several years. To me, it just seemed normal and no big deal. I think it gave me some good perspective on modern appliances, though.” Submitted photo
