Army Spc. Kyle Klobuchar, 22, from Eveleth (center) has earned the nickname “Bomb Whisperer,” successfully finding more than a dozen mines while on patrol in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, over the past seven months. Klobuchar has gone on about 70 missions with the Comanche Company using his “Minehound,” a hand-held mine detector, to check the path ahead of the platoon. The company hasn’t lost a single man during their time in Kandahar, thanks in part to Klobuchar’s work. He says, “I hope I never have to see a Minehound again.” The infantrymen of the 3rd Platoon, Comanche Company soon will be packing up and heading home. (Carolyn Cole / Los Angeles Times)
