I remember Father Pat well from when I attended Sacred Heart School. We could not have been luckier to have Father Pat and Father Hayden. He was a wonderful priest with a good sense of humor.

I chatted with Msgr Pat last friday in the lobby of Lakeshore. Kind of frail, but getting ready to do the 4pm Mass in the chaple. My Irish friend.......take care and rest with your savior. Be sure to tell him about your Father's hamburger stand you worked at till midnight on Saturday.....so hot, tired....and like you told me you couldn't take a sip of water after midnight because of Communion the next day!!! We had a good laugh on that one as well as many others. I'll miss you and your Irish humor.

The most no-nonsense Priest I have ever met. Father McDowell was someone who would go way out of his way to help a person in need. A kind man with a great sense of humor and a sermon that was usually off the cuff, but right on message. He touched the lives of so many...including us. Father Pat was a tremedous help to the many families of the Washington Family Resource Center in Duluth. It was an honor for me to work hand in hand with this exceptional man of God. He was always available to assist the poor of our community. He will be missed in Duluth.

Fr. McDowell and Fr. Hayden made an awesome team during their joint tenure at Sacred Heart in the 60's when I was growing up. Father became a friend of my family and I will always be grateful for his wise counsel and wondrous sense of humor...and for the perpetual adoration chapel he began. I have stopped in many times over the years as I was heading home to the Cities, always thinking of him while I was there. May you rest in peace, dear Fr. Pat! Thank you for teaching us about God's love.
