Authorities for the Northern Lights Express high-speed rail line will have to decide whether to build a new, 30-mile section of track that would vastly improve train speeds between Superior and Sandstone.
The catch? An estimated increase of $60 million to $90 million to the current $400 million price tag.
In a reversal of company policy, the Duluth Transit Authority says it will brave winter’s inclement weather with a snow emergency route this year along Superior Street and Grand Avenue.
