Good news if you missed out on the first round of tickets released for sailing opportunities during this summer’s Tall Ships Festival: Visit Duluth is adding 1,200 day sail tickets for that weekend, July 26-28.
Some 225,000 fans were attracted to the week-long Tall Ships spectacle. Direct retail impact is estimated at $15 million. The image and popularity of Duluth as a visitor destination is further elevated and a lifetime of memories were created.
The results are in — and here are the winners in the News Tribune’s Treasure Hunt contest, in which readers were invited to celebrate the Tall Ships’ visit by collecting gold coin stamps from greater downtown merchants.
Erin Somers and RJ Johnson had been looking to marry in Duluth, one of their favorite weekend getaways, ever since their engagement about 1½ years ago. But what sealed the deal for the Chanhassen, Minn., couple was winning a contest to tie the knot aboard the Pride of Baltimore II, a classic wooden clipper visiting Duluth as part of the Tall Ships Duluth festival.
