The writer of the interesting June 10 letter, “Sovereignty of God not in atheists’ dictionary,” criticized a previous writer for quoting Scripture out of context, specifically a reference to burned branches in the gospel of John.
Tucked away in the Central Hillside, St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church is not among the most well-known or highly attended churches in Duluth. However, it is perhaps one of the more historical places of worship in the Twin Ports.
Yes, the Bible says, “There is no God.” But did you know the whole verse in Psalms reads, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ ” Anyone can twist Scripture to fit their religion or philosophy, even the founder of the Lake Superior Freethinkers.
The government has a duty to ensure the protection of security with respect to organized crime’s clandestine production of and trafficking in harmful drugs. The federal government has the means to stop organized crime’s drug trafficking nationally for the good of society.
What is more important: someone’s feelings or the truth? I would hope you agree with me it’s the latter. Then again, this is a changed America where the priority has shifted from being honest to telling cozy, feel-good lies and padded euphemisms.
Jack Kemp helped start a chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays at Duluth’s Pilgrim Congregational Church more than two decades ago. He was the pastor there and also helped usher in a likely first for the area, a lesbian minister.
The Minnesota House yesterday passed a bill authorizing the city of Duluth to create development districts to improve the area’s general economy. The measure, sponsored by Rep. Michael Jaros, allows the city to promote development programs in each district created.
