Field reports: Wisconsin to increase walleye fingerling stocking
Wisconsin anglers could begin seeing more walleyes in their lakes as the result of a statewide initiative announced Wednesday by Gov. Scott Walker’s office. The state will make available $10 million for capital improvements at hatcheries and $2 million a year for the next biennium to raise and stock “extended growth” walleye fingerlings 6 to 8 inches long, said Mike Staggs, director of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Fisheries.By Sam Cook , May 26, 2013

Do it: Lake trout — any time now
The old-timers say the lake trout bite best when the aspen leaves are the size of a beaver’s ear. And in this crazy late spring, that should be soon — assuming the ice is out. There are lots of good lake trout lakes off the Gunflint Trail, and Snowbank Lake near Ely has lake trout as well. Catch them by trolling flashy spoons or crankbaits.
