Maritime Visitor Center showcases the best and worst of life at sea 
If you want to go to extremes with no regrets afterward, stop by the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center in Canal Park. Two new exhibits on the upper floor of the museum offer a taste of the highs and lows that can engulf those employed sailing the Great Lakes. The museum is located at 600 S. Lake Ave. in historic Canal Park.

Local 4-H experiments with wind energy technology
Thousands of youth from around the country joined local 4-H members as they gathered at the Irving Community Center in West Duluth recently for the annual National Youth Science Day (NYSD) experiment. This year’s challenge — to learn about wind energy by building a small turbine.
By designing their own wind turbines and then testing the designs, an interest was sparked in the minds of many young adults about the possibilities of careers in science, especially during a time when the nation has the potential to claim a position as a leader in scientific exploration.

Skyline Parkway signs: A chance to own a piece of Duluth’s history
Now that the new signs along Skyline Parkway have been put into place, you might be wondering what will happen to the old ones. Here is your chance to grab one.
The Skyline Planning and Preservation Alliance will be having a one-day sale at the Coppertop Church on Saturday, Nov. 26. The organization said it plans to sell the signs to raise money to remove trees from blocked lookouts. Part of the proceeds from the sale will also benefit the Enger Tower and Park Restoration Fund.

New sports apparel shop opens in downtown Skywalk
Seven years ago, Steve Miller quit school to pursue his lifelong dream of owning a sports apparel shop. Miller had completed one year at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in the law enforcement program but knew that was not where his heart was.
“It’s been a childhood dream; it’s what I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember,” he said.
