Francis X. Alfonsi, 71, of Proctor, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Benedictine Health Center, Duluth.

Francis X. Alfonsi, 71, of Proctor, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Benedictine Health Center, Duluth, after a lengthy illness.
Francis was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Duluth, the son of Xavier and Loretta (Cascanette) Alfonsi. He grew up in Duluth and graduated from Cathedral High School. He married Karen Dusek Nov. 25, 1967, in Floodwood. Francis enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially UMD hockey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ted.
Francis is survived by his wife, Karen; sons Craig of Duluth and Keith (Marcy) of St. Paul; brother Don of Duluth; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sandy Popham for her efforts at keeping Fran healthy for 15 years. In addition, thanks go to Dr. Maddy and the Essentia Health Nephrology department and especially every nurse who provided Francis with such great care on his long journey.
A GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 16, in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth. Private burial at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth at a later date.
