Alan Lund, died Jan. 27, 2013.
He was born in Duluth, on Feb. 21, 1930 to Odd and Grace (Pearson) Lund.
Alan graduated from Central High School in 1948 and served in the Minnesota National Guard. He married Verena Silvers on May 18, 1957.
Alan worked for the Loop Food Store and Famous Foods. In 1966 he became a sales supervisor for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune, working there until retiring in January, 1991.
Alan’s hobbies included travel, fishing in Canada, gardening, dining out with friends, discussions with his football pals in Superior and his Duluth morning coffee buddies.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks. Over the years he rang bells for the Salvation Army, helped serve meals at the Mission, made visits for Mended Hearts and along with his wife worked on several Benedictine Health Center Auxiliary projects. Also, until cardiovascular problems curtailed his activities, he was an active volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital and delivered food to homebound residents for Meals On Wheels.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Odd and Grace Lund; his in-laws, Edward and Louise Silvers; his brother-in-law, Buck Ludowese; and many uncles and aunts.
Survivors are his wife, Verena; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ludowese, Wooster Ohio; brothers-in-law, Edward (Bernie) Silvers, St. Cloud, Minn., and Norbert (Elaine) Silvers, Richmond, Minn.; niece Kathy Ludowese, Columbus, Ohio and nephews, Mark Ludowese, Jackson, Mich., Joseph (LaVonda) Ludowese, Allen, Texas and Richard (Debbie) Ludowese, Wadsworth, Ohio.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Thursday, Feb. 7, in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue and a reception will follow the service. The service will be officiated by Chaplain Michelle Robbie. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. James Home of Duluth Inc., known as Woodland Hills or to the CHUM food shelf.
